"Hans-Jürgen von Arnim received the Knight’s Cross for his leadership of
the 17th Panzer Division during the first week of Operation Barbarossa. In that time his division had blazed a trail of destruction as part of
Guderian’s Panzergruppe, and among other things it:
1.) Participated in the capture of Brest-Litovsk (22.06.1941).
2.) Captured Slonim and prevented a breakout of Soviet forces from the Bialystok pocket (25.06.1941).
3.) Reached the Southern edge of Minsk a mere five days after the start of the campaign (27.06.1941).
Arnim himself was wounded at Stolpce on the 28.06.1941, however he would later be awarded the Knight’s Cross while in hospital for the commendable achievements of his division." from his Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross citation, awarded on September 4th, 1941 as Generalleutnant and commander of the 17th Panzer Division.
