Honored Allies Wednesday: Ramil K. Abdrshin (Soviet Union)

 
 
"In February 1943, he was conscripted into the ranks of the Red Army, and in March he participated in the battles on the Voronezh Front of the Great Patriotic War.  On the night of September 22, 1943, sergeant Ramil Abdršin and his team crossed the Dnieper on improvised rafts.  In the battles for the villages of Zarubincy, Lukovitsy, Grigorovka (Kanevsky District, Cherkasy Region, Ukrainian SSR), Ramil Abdrshin acted decisively and courageously.  While repelling a counterattack by the Hitlerites on October 11, 1943, he was seriously wounded and died on November 8, 1943.  By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated November 17, 1943, for the exemplary performance of the combat tasks of the command on the front of the fight against the Nazi invaders and at the same time demonstrated courage and heroism, Sergeant Ramil Khairullaevich Abdrshin was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union."
