Torpedo Run! is a game in which opponents move and fire at each others fleet until one is victorious and the other lay at the bottom of the sea. This is done by using a disk launcher that looks like a surfacing sub. When fired, the disks slide across the board and into slots in your enemy's ship. When it, the ship blows up with the help of some rubber bands. Once your opponents fleet is destroyed, you win! Simple and lots of fun. This, along with Crossbows and Catapults, was my favorite game as a youngster and are now with my own kids. Check out the original TV commercial below to see the action.
Just another reason the 80s were fucking awesome, dude!

I had this and crossbows too. Me and my brother spent many hours flinging things accross the room at each other with these games. There is something about these games that video games will never be able to replace. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteWowser ... that's a blast from simpler times!
ReplyDeleteI had Chopper strike and some 3D Sub vrs Battleship game plus a WW1 Areo game on a board with plastic planes whos name also escapes me, a bit like Wings of Glory (in fact I think they based their game on this lol).
Before games like this, my brothers and I use to make catapults out of Lincoln Logs. We'd set up all our Marx plastic soldiers and then catapult the hell outta each other! Over time we retired that fun because Dad caught on by all the nicks in the acoustic ceiling in out room. Might be the reason he bought us Crossbows and Catapults.
