He was awarded the Order of Micheal the Brave 3rd Class for his leadership in the opening weeks of Operation Barbarossa on October 17th, 1941 as Major General of the Romanian Cavalry Corps.
He was then awarded the Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross for his leadership of the 4th Romanian Army on June 7th, 1944 with the rank of Lt. General against Soviet forces in Northern Romania.
