"In May 1944 the 83rd Infantry Division held a sector along the Welikaja River at a point about 10 km east of the Opotschka—Ostrow road. In this
time Leutnant Anneken played a major role in ensuring that this
operationally significant sector was held, and for this he was awarded
the Knight’s Cross." from his Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross citation, awarded on June 9th, 1944 as Leutnant in the Füsilier Regiment 83 of the 83rd Infantry Division.
