"In 1943, he was commander of a squadron of sub-machine gunners (86th Infantry Regiment, 180th Infantry Division of the 38th Army) of the Voronezh and 1st Ukrainian fronts. He would participate in the liberation of Ukraine, Hungary, Romania, and Czechoslovakia. He distinguished himself during the Battle of the Dnieper on September 30, 1943 and was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin for it."
