Received the Knight's Cross of the Virtuti Militari, Order of the White Eagle and the US Presidential Medal of Freedom for his activities during WWII that included acting as emissary to the Polish Home Army and the exiled Polish government in the UK. He is also credited with maintaining communications to the Western Allies during the Warsaw Uprising and then, upon his escape, being the main source of documentation of the uprising with the volumes of evidence on the Polish resistance at the time.
