Kaya was born into Japanese royalty and would find himself, like all other male nobility, a commissioned officer in the Japanese military. We would first be a cavalry officer in the 20s and then a member of the Imperial Japanese Army General Staff in the early 30s. During the war, he would be the personal liaison of the Emperor in Nanking. We would then later be head of the IJA 43rd Division and then commander of the Third Imperial Guard Division in 1944 and briefly served as president of the Army Staff College during the closing stages of World War II. After the war he would be involved with several civilian organizations and businesses until his death.
