Enemy Elite Friday: Ludwig Bachmaier (Germany)

"Hauptmann Bachmaier did an outstanding job of leading his battalion from the foremost line during the costly fighting to expand the Poltava bridgehead on the 19.09.1941 and the days that followed. He and his  battalion were primarily responsible for establishing a crossing over the Kolomak river, which was an important achievement since the swampy terrain on the Worskla’s Eastern bank complicated the deployment of additional forces. Hauptmann Bachmaier thus has a decisive share in the capture of Poltava itself as well as in the swift overcoming of the riverine/swampy terrain to the east of the city." from his Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross citation, awarded on December 26th, 1941 as Hauptmann der Reserve in the 57th Infantry Division.

Another capable enemy elite,
Brian
