"On the 06.09.1944 the British launched a tank-supported attack against
Gemmano (South of San Marino). The main hammer blow fell upon the division, which was on loan to the 71st Infantry Division
at the time. During this time Bachmaier and his battalion managed to
repel all Allied attacks launched against them. Bachmaier would later
receive the Knight’s Cross in recognition of this feat." from his Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross citation, awarded on January 9th, 1945 as Hauptmann der Reserve with the 5th Mountain Division and 71st Infantry Division (temporary).
