"He was drafted into the Soviet Army in 1941 by the Karakul district military commissariat of the Bukhara region. Sergeant, crew commander of the 2nd Machine Gun Company of the 691st Mountain Rifle Regiment of the 383rd Rifle Division. For the courage shown in the battles for Kerch, by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 16, 1944, Sergeant Yuri Bykov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union."
