"Born in 1912 in the village of Streshin, Gomel region, Russia. He was drafted into the Soviet Army by the Tutrkul Military Commissariat of the Karakalpak ASSR. Guard Captain, Adjutant Senior of the 3rd Rifle Battalion of the 30th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 14th Guards Rifle Division.
For the courage shown during the crossing of the Oder, by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 27, 1945, Captain Dmitry Vasilyevich Bernatsky was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union."
