He was awarded two Orders of the Red Banner and Orders of Alexander Nevsky. For personal courage and courage shown in the Battle for the Crimea, Guards Lieutenant Colonel Afanasy Semenovich Barabash was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on May 16, 1944."
