"Lonescu was a Romanian General during World War II and commander of the Romanian Air Force's Corpul I Aerian." He was awarded the Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross on 10 May 1944 and the Order of Micheal the Brave 3rd Class on 4 August 1945 for that command.
