Now all I could find was that he was awarded the Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross on 16 April 1943 as Generalleutnant of Kampfgruppe/Stab Heeresgruppe Afrika, 5.Panzer-Armee. Couldn't find anything on the actual action that won his this honor but it was probably for his command in North Africa. If you have any more insight on what it may have been, let us know.
