He was awarded the Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross on August 23rd, 1944 as Oberleutnant of the Grenadier-Regiment 974, 367 Infanterie-Division. I was unable to kind out anything about the action that won his this medal but suspect it was on the Eastern Front. If you have any insight on his service let us know.
