ensure that every opportunity was being utilized. He made particular
care to ensure that the artillery and heavy weapons were always in a
position to support the infantry’s swift advance." from his Knight Cross to the Iron Cross citation, awarded on September 30th, 1939 as Generaloberst of the Heeresgruppe Nord.
He received the Order of Micheal the Brave 1st Class on September 1st, 1942 as Generalfeldmarschall of the Heersgruppe Süd.
