Enemy Elite Friday: Waldemar von Gazen (Germany)

 
 
"During July 1942 Oberleutnant von Gaza trusted forward to the Temernik river, captured the intact road bridge there and created a bridgehead.  With this he made an important contribution to the capture of Rostov on the 25.07.1942, and was recognized for this achievement with the Knight's Cross."  from his Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross citation, awarded on September 18, 1942.

"Awarded for his exceptional achievements as a Kampfgruppe commander in the Caucasus.  In one two day period it destroyed 22 enemy tanks.  Gazen was also recognized for his contributions to the planned withdrawal of German divisions from the Terek and Kuban areas."  from his Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves citation, awarded on January 18, 1943.

"Awarded for distinguishing himself near Oktoberfeld (close to Melitopol) on the 30.09.1943.  His performance here was such that he was named in the Wehrmachtbericht of the 03.10.1943."  from his Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords citation, awarded on October 3, 1943.
